Outdoor Education Lab

Context
The outdoor education sector in Canada is facing unprecedented challenges as the impacts of climate change intensify. From increased weather-related disruptions to shifting program needs, organizations are seeking ways to adapt while continuing to provide transformative outdoor learning experiences. Recognizing the need for collective action, Outward Bound Canada convened a national initiative to bring the sector together and explore pathways toward resilience.

Our Role
Colab invited Bloom Consulting to co-design and co-facilitate three national gatherings in Vancouver, Halifax, and Toronto. Using a social innovation lab approach, we engaged 68 organizations from across the sector in dynamic processes that fostered connection, open dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving. Each gathering created space for participants to explore the climate-related impacts on their work, share perspectives, and co-create strategies for building resilience.

Outcome
The gatherings strengthened relationships across the sector and generated shared pathways for action in areas such as disaster preparedness, economic stability, and long-term organizational viability. Leaders left each session with concrete personal and organizational commitments, as well as a stronger sense of collective purpose. The process laid the groundwork for ongoing collaboration, equipping the outdoor education sector to face climate challenges with greater resilience and unity.
