A community driven strategic planning process

AGNS 2030

Context
The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS) had undergone a period of significant change and was preparing for an ambitious future. The Gallery aimed to create a five-year strategic plan anchored in its vision to foster a deep appreciation for the arts, while elevating AGNS into a dynamic, inclusive space for Nova Scotians and beyond. The plan needed to reflect core values of accessibility, relevance, ambition, and community, positioning the Gallery as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue and inspiration that contributes to the health and wellbeing of the province.

Our Role
AGNS engaged Colab to support the development of this strategic plan through meaningful stakeholder engagement. Recognizing the Gallery’s commitment to inclusivity, it was critical that the plan be informed by the real needs and perspectives of its diverse community. Colab facilitated strategic conversations and engagement with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including:

  • Board of Governors

  • All AGNS staff

  • Artists and arts sector stakeholders

  • Volunteers and donors

  • Government partners

  • Programming partners

  • Curators and museum leaders

Outcome
The result is a multi-year strategic plan that will guide AGNS through 2030. This roadmap outlines the Gallery’s goals, objectives, and actions, ensuring a structured, forward-thinking approach. It provides AGNS with the tools to achieve its mission, fulfill its vision, deliver on its brand promise, and complete major milestones that will have a lasting impact on both the institution and the communities it serves.
